We have just arrived at Koh Samui International Airport (USM) on a Bangkok Airways (Airbus) domestic flight from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). The footage in this airport video shows our outdoor disembarkation from the aircraft where we are met by an almost amusement park looking transfer vehicle which drives us a short distance through the airport to the domestic flight arrivals gate (gate 4). We are then guided into the terminal building and instructed to go either straight, for the Domestic Baggage Claim area or left to the International Baggage Claim area. In Bangkok Airport we had recieved a sticker to wear that indicated that we were to claim our bagage at the international baggage claim area. The reason for this was that we had arrived at Bangkok Airport on an International flight from Helsinki and all our luggage at been checked through to Koh Samui, our final destination. The footage then shows the baggage claim area which is a combination of luggage unpacked on the floor next to the baggage conveyor belt and some on the baggage claim conveyor belt. Baggage is driven from the aircraft in the back of an open pickup. The baggage claim service is relatively quick and effective at Ko Samui Airport. We had a little scare and thought that one of our bags had gotten lost, but after some short communication with the baggage handlers we where escorted to the other baggage conveyor area for "Domestic luggage" and there one piece of our luggage was riding alone on the baggage conveyor belt. Once we had the luggage our next step (after the obligatory toilet visit) was to go to the taxi/mini-bus transfers desk. All taxi and mini-bus transfers appear to be organised exclusively from this desk (which means that the price they tell you is the price you pay). The service is very effective and the price for the minibus is reasonable. We chose to be transported by minibus from Samui Airport to our hotel at Chaweng Beach. We paid 130 Baht per person (260 Baht) which was reasonable compared to the 500 Baht they where asking for a taxi to the same destination (a very short drive). The same drive with the taxi from Chaweng to the airport only costs 300 Baht 🙂 In the airport footage I have zoomed in on the airport transfers price list (at around 06:37) to give future visitors to koh Samui Airport an idea of the prices for minibus or taxi transfers to diverse destinations. Example taxi prices from the airport to Big Buddha, Plai Leam 500 Baht, Airport to Chaweng Beach North and Center 500 Baht, Chaweng Noi South 600 Baht, Choeng Mon 500 Baht, Lamai North 700 Baht, Lamai Center 800 Baht, Lamai South, Hua Thanon 900 Baht, Bophut 500 Baht etc. Koh Samui Airport is a fantastic and very unique airport which I am sure will be enjoyed and remembered by all travellers visiting the island of Koh Samui.
Wiki writes about Koh Samui Airport (USM), "Samui International Airport, also known as Ko Samui Airport or Koh Samui Airport, is a privately owned airport on the island of Ko Samui in Thailand..."
