Money Savers: Meet the Thrifty Traveler

If you love to travel and you don’t know about the website Thrifty Traveler, then you should.
Jared Kamrowski started Thrifty Traveler a year ago to share his passion for traveling for less.
“I’d like to think I’m an expert on getting places cheap, but I have a lot of places to get to,” says Kamrowski, who is planning on visiting South Africa, Europe and Dubai this year.
Kamrowski cuts travel costs by maximizing credit card travel rewards and finding low-cost flights.
“Travel is expensive but there are ways you can reduce the cost,” says Kamrowski. “Often one of the ways is finding a cheap flight.”
Kamrowski begins searching for cheap flights through Google Flights. After fielding several travel-related questions from friends and family, he started the Thrifty Traveler website and shares tips on Facebook and Twitter. He noticed traffic drastically increased after he started posting travel deals, so when he finds a ‘hot deal,’ he lists it.
This week, hot deals listed include $98 for a round trip flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Orlando, $493 round trip for Chicago to Shanghai and $390 from Miami to the Galapagos Islands.
One of the most common questions people post on Facebook is ‘what’s the catch?’ or ‘is this legit?’
It is. Kamrowski simply lists the deals he finds and says the website is a labor of love for the people who want to travel more, but have to travel within the confines of a budget.
“There are so many bargain deals out of different cities,” says Kamrowski. “But if there’s a flight deal from Minneapolis, there’s a pretty good chance it’s going to be featured on our website.”
