What We Know About Low-cost Airline Germanwings

It might not have the same name recognition as Ryanair or easyJet, but Germanwings has been operating in the hyper competitive low-cost European airline market for more than a decade. The airline had an almost perfect safety record until Tuesday, when Flight 9525, an Airbus A320, crashed in the French Alps while en route from Barcelona to Düsseldorf. Part of Lufthansa Group since January 2009, the company operates 110 routes with almost 90 aircraft across Europe, Israel and North Africa and marketed itself under the tagline "surprisingly low-cost flights."
